Bishop Montgomery and Redondo represent the two best boys basketball teams in the South Bay.

Saturday represents the second day of the second annual Take Flight Challenge at the Jordan Hangar.

And the event, which features some top programs from across the state, is bringing the Knights and Sea Hawks together to produce the best matchup in South Bay this season.

Bishop Montgomery and Redondo will tip off tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the evening session of the Take Flight Challenge.

Both teams are coming off deep tournament runs. Oregon State-bound Stephen Thompson Jr. was the MVP of Southern California Christmas Classic, and scored 20 points in the Knights’ 61-55 victory against De La Salle on Tuesday.

On the very same day, the Sea Hawks were in the championship game of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic National Division.

Redondo (11-3) fell to Fairfax, 56-51, but were without Billy Preston and Elijah Nesbit, who were ejected after getting involved in a melee in the final moments of the semifinals against St. Patrick School of New Jersey.

Sea Hawks coach Reggie Morris Jr. said both Preston and Nesbit will be back in the lineup tomorrow, and will have to be focused on the task of containing Bishop Montgomery (10-1).

“They (Bishop Montgomery) shoot the ball very well,” Morris Jr. said. “They’re like the high school version of the Golden State Warriors.”
