North Torrance High junior Mique Juarez, an all-purpose standout for the Saxons this season, verbally committed to USC this weekend.
Juarez was an All-CIF Southern Section Western Division pick and a Daily Breeze All-Area first-team selection on defense.
Juarez was named the Pioneer League’s Defensive Player of the Year after recording 107 tackles, 8.5 sacks, seven hurries, three interceptions, six deflections and six forced fumbles in 10 games, mostly as a linebacker or defensive back.
Juarez also had more than 2,200 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns on offense, where he played quarterback, wide receiver and running back.
“I just felt good there,” Juarez said of USC, which offered him just before last season after he impressed at a USC football camp. “All the coaches are awesome, always keeping in touch with me, always visiting, too, so it’s awesome.”.
